In 10 jaar is het aantal ‘multi-jobbers’ van 55 jaar en ouder zelfs verdubbeld. Toch weten we nog weinig over de motieven voor het combineren van meerdere banen. TNO onderzocht de diverse push- en pullmotieven van een 2<sup>e<\/sup> baan in loondienst of als zelfstandige bij oudere werknemers. Vooral de combinatie met een baan als zzp’er biedt de gewenste ruimte om eens heel anders te werken, zonder meteen alle financiële zekerheden van de vaak vaste baan op te geven. Met een baan ernaast zeggen de geïnterviewden in de studie een vorm te hebben gevonden voor gedeeltelijke of geleidelijke mobiliteit naar een andere baan. De oudere multi-jobbers weten op eigen initiatief de ‘gouden’ ketenen van het vaste contract te doorbreken door gedeeltelijk of geleidelijk hun hoofdbaan los te laten. TNO-onderzoeker Luc Dorenbosch: “We doen al 5 jaar actief onderzoek naar werkenden die banen combineren. Het is voor veel partijen een blinde vlek op het gebied van arbeidsmobiliteit. Het kent beperkingen, maar zeker ook kansen voor vooral oudere werknemers die weinig nieuwe perspectieven zien op de arbeidsmarkt. Vooral het deels starten van een eigen bedrijf naast de hoofdbaan geeft een nieuwe actieve impuls aan het werk. Je zou kunnen zeggen dat het een soort van <em>doorstart-ups<\/em> zijn, waarmee ouderen een parttime doorstart in hun loopbaan maken.
